Class Description

A note from the presenter: Did you feel uncomfortable when you saw the title of this event? If so, you're not alone. Many of us never learned how to skillfully talk about emotions - especially those who, like me, were socialized as male when we were children.

As a result, we either avoid thinking about those pesky feelings entirely, or else we get overwhelmed and handle them like a person learning to swim in the ocean during a storm: with a lot of screaming and thrashing that is more likely to hurt ourselves and those around us than help us get to shore safely.

My hope is that this class can be a small step toward changing that. Together, we'll try to answer questions like:

  • Why should we care about feelings?
  • Who is responsible for our feelings?
  • Can we control our feelings?
  • How can we more effectively communicate our feelings?
  • How can we more effectively hear the feelings of others?
