Jace The Caveat
(He/They)
I am a leather Dom/switch, ally, fister, impact & breath player. I have two bratty subs - Jax Biggs and Athena. I'm also clinically bipolar. I serve the greater Leather community with my club, The Men of Onyx, currently in the Mid-Atlantic chapter. I am the Northeast Person of Leather 2024, 3rd place International Person of Leather. I learned what community is, from people like Bob who coached me through anxiety as a musician and Philly's angel advocate, Maso Mutt, starting in a little leather bar, The Bike Stop in Philly.
In 2015 I moved to Los Angeles and joined Onyx SoCal-Southwest to serve my community and learn more about Leather. In the torrent of fundraising, donation drives, performances, pride parades, and “boots-to-fruit” raffle ticket sales, I found a place where I can be my whole self. Our chapter president taught me that an organization was stronger with everyone's skills, and I was appointed to design our social media policy. In choosing love and community I found acceptance again.
My favorite class to teach, “Solitude+” is an open discussion on relationships. Participants build a toolbox of skills so they can approach relationships with confidence & clarity. This class was the product of reflection after a manic episode during the pandemic, where I lost relationships and stability, along with my mind. The leather community housed, clothed and fed me - my community showed that love is our common thread, and perfection isn't a ticket for access.
As a musician I write about this world I love in my albums Alpha, Leather, and the Saddle Soap EP. I performed some of these tracks for the Tom of Finland Foundation, Mufasa’s Leather Fellowship Weekend, and the Upright Citizens Brigade. I spread our history and chart a different future with songs like “Hands” where I offer my protection to mishandled pups, and “God or the Grave” which is an open letter to a queer fearing country.
In my title year, I've had the opportunity to teach, assemble munches, march in the Baltimore pride parade, host the Georgia Pup & Handler contest, and accept an award on Onyx Mid-Atlantic’s behalf from another local club - the Shipmates - for our continued support. I've learned that my story is the only tool I have to advocate, and my scars are helping to heal our collective wounds, making space for joy.
